Honeywell BW GasAlertMicroClip XL 4 Gas Detector

The Honeywell BW GasAlertMicroClip XL is a small, clip-on 4 gas detector for hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide, oxygen and combustible gas. We supply the MicroClip XL and the wider BW MicroClip series, with the test gas and calibration to keep each unit in service.

What the GasAlertMicroClip XL detects

The MicroClip XL continuously monitors up to four gas hazards at once:

Why people choose the MicroClip XL

Size is the main reason. At 190 g, it clips to a collar or chest pocket and stays out of the way during a full shift. Honeywell describes it as easy to use with no expertise required: one button, simple icons on the display and a self-test of sensors, battery, circuits and alarms at start-up.

The rechargeable lithium polymer battery runs for 18 hours typical and recharges in under 6 hours. Honeywell guarantees runtime for at least a 12 hour shift down to -20°C without compromising LEL detection. The unit is rated IP68, which Honeywell states as up to 45 minutes at a depth of 1.2 m.

It is ATEX and IECEx approved Ex ia IIC T4 Ga. Our guide to ATEX zones explains what that marking means for hazardous areas. For entry into tanks, pits and chambers, see our page on confined space gas monitors.

Bump test reminders and IntelliFlash

The MicroClip XL can be set to remind users when a bump test is due, and to force a bump test or calibration when one is overdue. A flashing green IntelliFlash light shows that the detector has been bump tested and is monitoring correctly, so supervisors can check compliance at a glance.

For fleets, Honeywell’s IntelliDoX docking station runs automated bump tests and calibration and keeps the records.

Test gas, calibration and service from Vistec

We supply bump test gas and regulators matched to the MicroClip’s four sensors. We also provide gas detector calibration with a certificate for each monitor, including units bought elsewhere. Our customer database flags a month in advance when a service is due, so the visit is booked at a time that suits you.

Common questions

What gases does the GasAlertMicroClip XL measure?

Hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide, oxygen and combustible gas. Combustible gas can be shown as % LEL or as % by volume methane.

How long does the MicroClip XL battery last?

Honeywell quotes 18 hours typical, with a recharge in under 6 hours. It guarantees runtime for at least a 12 hour shift down to -20°C.

Is the MicroClip XL waterproof?

It is rated IP68. Honeywell states this as protection against dust and water for up to 45 minutes at a depth of 1.2 m.

What is the difference between the MicroClip XL and the MicroClip X3?

Both are part of the BW MicroClip series, with the same four gases, 18 hour battery and IP68 rating. Honeywell positions the XL as the lower up-front cost option. The X3 adds a new oxygen sensor that extends its expected service lifetime to 5 years.

Can the MicroClip XL be bump tested in a dock?

Yes. It is compatible with Honeywell’s IntelliDoX docking station for automated bump tests and calibration. We supply test gas and regulators for docks and for manual checks.
