Gas Detection Maintenance Contracts and 24-Hour Call-Out

A gas detection system only protects people if it works on the day it is needed. Our gas detection maintenance contracts keep your system serviced, calibrated and recorded, with priority response if something goes wrong. We look after sites across Ireland and have done since 1983.

What does a gas detection maintenance contract include?

A service contract puts your system on a planned schedule so nothing depends on someone remembering. Each planned visit typically covers:

How do we make sure services are not missed?

Our customer database flags each site a month before its service is due. We then contact you and book the visit at a time that suits your operation, whether that is a quiet morning in a kitchen, a school holiday or a planned shutdown.

This matters because missed services are the most common reason a gas detection system stops being reliable. Sensors drift slowly and silently. Preventive maintenance on a fixed schedule finds the problem before an alarm fails to sound, or sounds when it should not.

What happens when a gas alarm goes off?

If a gas alarm activates, follow your site emergency procedure first. If gas may be present, get people out to fresh air and call the emergency services. Once the site is safe, the system needs to be checked to find out why it alarmed and whether it is ready to protect you again.

We run a rapid response emergency call-out service on a 24-hour basis. Our engineers can investigate the cause of an alarm, check the detectors and panel, and reset or repair the system. Service contract holders get priority response, so their call is dealt with ahead of non-contract work. If you need an engineer, contact us or call the office.

Do you maintain equipment from other manufacturers?

Yes. Many sites have a mix of detectors and panels installed by different contractors over the years. Our engineers service and maintain gas detection equipment from many manufacturers, not only the brands we supply. You can bring the whole site under one maintenance contract instead of managing several suppliers.

If a part of your system is beyond economic repair, we can advise on replacement from our range of fixed gas detectors and control panels.

Training for your staff at handover

When we install or commission a system, we train your staff at handover. That covers how the system operates, what the different alarm stages mean, and how to reset after an alarm once the cause has been dealt with. Staff who understand the panel are less likely to ignore a warning or isolate a detector by mistake.

If your team changes, talk to us about refreshing that knowledge on a service visit.

One provider for gas detection and building safety

In October 2026 Vistec became part of Xenon Building Technology, an Irish fire, security and building technology provider. We still trade as Vistec, with the same team. For sites that want it, gas detection maintenance can now sit alongside fire detection, intruder alarms, CCTV and access control. See our full list of services.

Common questions

Do I need a maintenance contract, or can I book one-off visits?

Both are available. We carry out one-off service visits and call-outs as well as contracts. A contract gives you planned servicing, a reminder system that books visits in advance, and priority response when you need an engineer.

How often will you visit?

The frequency depends on your equipment, the gases being monitored and the conditions on site. We agree the schedule with you when the contract is set up, based on manufacturer guidance and how your site is used.

Is your call-out service available outside office hours?

Yes. We provide a rapid response call-out service on a 24-hour basis. Contract holders get priority response.

Can you take over maintenance of a system someone else installed?

Yes. Our engineers service gas detection equipment from many manufacturers. We will survey the existing system on the first visit and let you know if anything needs attention.

Do we get paperwork after each visit?

Yes. You get a calibration and service certificate after each visit, which you can keep with your site safety records.
